"I took my exam today and I passed a 2 hr and 30 min exam in about an hour. The course was great and very easy to follow. Suzy was absolutely the best instructor, she made it feel as if I was in the room with her learning instead of watching a video. I passed on my first try and I owe it all to TesTeachers. I have tried other study programs in the past but this is by far and away the best experience I've ever had. I'm planning on taking my series 7 and 66 and I'm excited to know that I have TesTeachers at my disposal to prepare for the exams. Just stick to the program that is set for you and you can't go wrong. Trust me, I'm proof that it works!" - Jeremy, Life and Health, Texas

Common Texas Insurance Exam Candidate Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I determine which Texas Insurance Exam I need to take?

The type of insurance you would like to sell will determine which Texas insurance license you will obtain. There are two main insurance licenses in Texas (Life and Health and Property and Casualty). The Life and Health insurance license will allow you to sell life and health insurance (including annuities). The Property and Casualty insurance license will allow you to sell all other types of insurance (including personal lines and commercial lines). If you are only going to be selling personal lines and NOT commercial lines then you can take the Personal Lines only exam. The Limited Lines exam will allow you to sell Limited Lines Insurance.

Are the Insurance Exams different state to state?

Yes! Be very careful when preparing for your exam to make sure the material you study is Texas specific. There are many insurance schools out there that offer generic study materials. The course you study MUST be Texas specific. Our online courses were created specifically for the Texas insurance exams.

How do I schedule my insurance exam?

Texas state insurance exams are administered by Pearson Vue. To schedule an exam, candidates may visit their website here. For any questions during the exam registration process, please call (888) 754-7667.

Are there any pre-licensing education requirements for my Texas insurance exam?

There are no pre-licensing education requirements. However, you must know the concepts to pass the exam. Choosing TesTeachers as your pre-licensing education provider is the first step in preparing to pass this exam.

All of our insurance courses are specific to each State’s laws and regulations.  Our Study Plan will navigate you through all of the tools provided in your online course.

Happy studies!

How do I apply for my license?

For questions regarding how to obtain a license after the examination has been passed, candidates should contact the Texas Department of Insurance at (512) 322-3503 or visit them online at www.tdi.texas.gov. After passing the examination, candidates must apply for their license within one year. After one year, the Department will require the candidate to take and pass their licensing exams again.

What should I bring to the test center the day of my Texas insurance exam?

You should bring your Key Facts from our Texas insurance exam prep course to re-read just prior to going in to take your Texas insurance exam. This will load your memory for the test. You cannot take anything into the test room with you other than what the proctor provides you. You will be able to leave your personal belongings in a locker in the testing center waiting room. They will provide you with a pen/pencil, scratch paper, and a basic function calculator at the test site. Make sure to write down your cheat sheet on your scratch paper when you sit down at your cubicle prior to starting your Texas insurance exam. This will allow you to refer back to it whenever you need to during the exam.

If I don't pass is there any waiting period that applies before I can retake the Texas insurance exam?

This computerized exam is scored immediately upon completion of parts I and II of the exam. If a candidate fails either part, they must pay a reexamination fee and retake the entire exam. Candidates must wait 24 hours before rescheduling their exam. There is no limit to how many times a candidate can take the exam. Examination results are valid one year from the date of examination.

Do I have to get fingerprinted?

The state of Texas requires all candidates to get fingerprinted as part of the licensure process. Candidates may be fingerprinted in conjunction with an examination at Pearson VUE Centers.  A candidate may also be fingerprinted at MorphoTrust USA (L1) locations not dependent on a Pearson VUE exam schedule.  Candidates may call (888) 467-2080 (Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM Central Time) to make fingerprint reservation or register online by going online to http://www.l1enrollment.com/state/?st=tx.

What do the questions on the Texas insurance exam look like?

Here are two Texas insurance exam questions that come from our materials that are very similar to the formatting and content of the questions on the exam:

Life and Health

1. An insurance producer selling a Variable annuity whose cash value depends on the performance of an underlying investment account must be registered with:

A. The National Association of Insurance Commission

B. The National Association of Life Underwriters

C. The Chartered Life Underwriters

D. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)

Property and Casualty

2. A customer has a Personal Auto Policy (PAP) written with a combined single limit of liability of $100,000. If the customer is involved in an at fault accident that injures five other people $25,000 each, how much will his policy pay:

A. $25,000

B. $75,000

C. $100,000

D. $125,000

Answers and explanations to these questions found in our comprehensive Texas insurance exam prep online and print materials are as follows:

1. Answer - D Explanation

Producers selling Variable life and Variable annuities must have a state life insurance license plus a federal securities license (Series 6 or 7), which are now issued by FINRA.

2. Answer - C Explanation:

While most PAPs are written with 'split limits', such as $25/$50/$50, which means that the most the insurer will pay for Bl if you injure one person would be $25,000, and the most they will pay for Bl if you injure more than one person in the same occurrence is $50,000. Remember, the per person limit for Bl is within the per occurrence limit. The last number is the limit for PD to the property of others per occurrence, which is in this example is $50,000 for PD, for a total of $100,000, not counting the cost of defense. However, most BAPs are written with single limits of liability, meaning that there are no internal or inside limits. if your combined single limit is $100,000, the insurer will pay up to that amount for Bl and/or PD, so one person could collect up to $100,000. But, if they did, there would be nothing left to cover the Bl of others of PD to their property.
