Common Georgia Insurance Exam Candidate Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I determine which Georgia Insurance Exam I need to take?

The type of insurance you would like to sell will determine which Georgia insurance license you will obtain. There are two main insurance licenses in Georgia (Life and Health and Property and Casualty). The Life and Health insurance license will allow you to sell life and health insurance (including annuities). The Property and Casualty insurance license will allow you to sell all other types of insurance (including personal lines and commercial lines). If you are only going to be selling personal lines and NOT commercial lines then you can take the Personal Lines only exam.

Are the Insurance Exams different state to state?

Yes! Be very careful when preparing for your exam to make sure the material you study is Georgia specific. There are many insurance schools out there that offer generic study materials. The course you study MUST be Georgia specific. Our online course was created specifically for the Georgia insurance exams. Our Georgia Insurance Pre-License Provider name is TesTeachers, LLC and our provider number is 123626.

How do I schedule my insurance exam?

Before scheduling a Georgia insurance exam, students must earn a Certificate of Completion.  Georgia state insurance exams are administered by Pearson VUE. To schedule an exam, candidates may visit their website here. For any questions during the exam registration process, please call (888) 204-6272.

How do I earn my Georgia insurance Certificate of Completion?

You must complete a pre-licensing course prior to taking an Georgia Insurance exam as required by the Georgia Department of Insurance. Here are the required hours that must be completed prior to taking your exam and obtaining your license:

  • Life, Accident and Sickness - 20 hours of Life and 20 hours of Accident and Sickness
  • Life Insurance Only - 20 hours
  • Accident and Sickness Only - 20 hours
  • Property and Casualty - 20 hours of Property and 20 hours of Casualty

All our online courses are approved with the state of Georgia . Once you review all sections of this course and complete all Pre-License Certification Exams with a minimum score of 70%, your Certificate of Completion will immediately be available for you to print off directly from our site.  You will need your certificate to register for your exam.

You must take this certificate with you to the exam, or you will not be admitted to sit for your test.  Your course completion certificate will be good for one year from the date of your completion of this course.

How do I apply for my license?

For questions regarding how to obtain a license after the examination has been passed, candidates should contact the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner at (404)656-2101 or visit them online at www.oci.ga.gov/Agents/Home.aspx. After passing the examination, candidates must apply for their license within one year. After one year, the Office will require the candidate to take and pass their licensing exams again.

What should I bring to the test center the day of my Georgia insurance exam?

You should bring your Key Facts from our Georgia insurance exam prep course to re-read just prior to going in to take your Georgia insurance exam. This will load your memory for the test. You cannot take anything into the test room with you other than what the proctor provides you. You will be able to leave your personal belongings in a locker in the testing center waiting room. They will provide you with a pen/pencil, scratch paper, and a basic function calculator at the test site. Make sure to write down your cheat sheet on your scratch paper when you sit down at your cubicle prior to starting your Georgia insurance exam. This will allow you to refer back to it whenever you need to during the exam.

If I don't pass is there any waiting period that applies before I can retake the Georgia insurance exam?

This computerized exam is scored immediately upon completion of parts I and II of the exam.  If a candidate fails either part, they must pay a reexamination fee and reschedule their exam. Candidates must wait 24 hours before rescheduling their exam and two weeks before retaking the exam. Candidates who fail the examination 3 times and earned their pre-licensing certification via a virtual classroom will be required to retake an in-classroom pre-licensing course prior to retaking the examination. Candidates who earned their pre-licensing certification via a independent provider will be required to retake the course using a different provider.

Do I have to get fingerprinted?

The state of Georgia now requires all new resident applicants to submit electronic fingerprints through a vendor selected by the Department. Candidates can find instructions on the Georgia Agents Home Page at http://oci.ga.gov/Agents/home.aspx#7.

What do the questions on the Georgia insurance exam look like?

Here are two Georgia insurance exam questions that come from our materials that are very similar to the formatting and content of the questions on the exam:

Life and Health

1. An insurance producer selling a Variable annuity whose cash value depends on the performance of an underlying investment account must be registered with:

A. The National Association of Insurance Commission

B. The National Association of Life Underwriters

C. The Chartered Life Underwriters

D. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)

Property and Casualty

2. A customer has a Personal Auto Policy (PAP) written with a combined single limit of liability of $100,000. If the customer is involved in an at fault accident that injures five other people $25,000 each, how much will his policy pay:

A. $25,000

B. $75,000

C. $100,000

D. $125,000

Answers and explanations to these questions found in our comprehensive Georgia insurance exam prep online and print materials are as follows:

1. Answer - D Explanation

Producers selling Variable life and Variable annuities must have a state life insurance license plus a federal securities license (Series 6 or 7), which are now issued by FINRA.

2. Answer - C Explanation

While most PAPs are written with 'split limits', such as $25/$50/$50, which means that the most the insurer will pay for Bl if you injure one person would be $25,000, and the most they will pay for Bl if you injure more than one person in the same occurrence is $50,000. Remember, the per person limit for Bl is within the per occurrence limit. The last number is the limit for PD to the property of others per occurrence, which is in this example is $50,000 for PD, for a total of $100,000, not counting the cost of defense. However, most BAPs are written with single limits of liability, meaning that there are no internal or inside limits. if your combined single limit is $100,000, the insurer will pay up to that amount for Bl and/or PD, so one person could collect up to $100,000. But, if they did, there would be nothing left to cover the Bl of others of PD to their property.
